This year, World Wildlife Day on March 3rd is focusing on marine species for the first time ever! World Wildlife Day calls on stewards across the globe to focus their attention on the perils of marine species and celebrate the solutions to creating a healthier ocean environment.
To celebrate, we’re holding a student stewards art contest to submit Bermuda artwork to the Delphinus Great International Children’s Drawing Contest.
Bermuda students ages 5-15 years old are invited to submit art entries for a chance to win a classroom trip to Dolphin Quest in June, World Oceans Month, to visit the dolphins and explore the Outer Habitat ocean sanctuary.
The top 3 submissions in 3 age categories (5-9, 10-12 and 12-15) will also be submitted to the Delphinus International 7th Festival of the Oceans art contest for a chance to win a trip to Cancun, Mexico for a student and guardian.
Create a drawing that explains the problem and solution to one of these 5 topics:
- Climate change
- Marine debris pollution
- Invasion of the non-native lionfish
- Conservation of the vaquita porpoise
Submit artwork to Dolphin Quest by March 3rd, 2019. Artwork must be:
- No smaller than 11 x 17″ (27.9 cm x 43 cm)
- Two dimensional and created using any of the following medium:
- Colored pencil

Winners will receive a classroom field trip to Dolphin Quest in June to celebrate World Ocean’s Month, meet our dolphins, and visit the Outer Habitat ocean sanctuary.
The top 3 submissions from each category will be submitted to the Delphinus 7th Festival of the Oceans drawing contest.
The winner of the international competition will receive a round trip to Cancun, Mexico for the winner and an adult guest. This prize includes flight tickets, 3 hotel nights June 3rd – 6th, 2019*, transportation in Cancun (as needed: to/from airport, hotel and award ceremony) and a 30 minute dolphin interactive experience and park entry at AMMPA accredited location Delphinus Xcaret.

The Big Picture
In addition to UN World Wildlife Day, the UN has also declared protecting our oceans as a top goal in their sustainable development plan.
This plan addresses the following global problems:
- Growing ocean acidification
- Worsening coastal eutrophication
With solutions such as:
- Expansion of protections areas for marine biodiversity
- Intensification of research capacity
- Increases in ocean science funding
