Program Content:
- The total time apprentices must commit to in this program is 100 hours broken up into 4-hour shifts.
- Participants will be mentored by Marine Mammal Specialists in all aspects of animal care and training including nutrition preparation, program observation, animal enrichment, and more.
- In addition, they will gain experience in public speaking, facility care, scientific studies, and teamwork.
- Participants will engage in community events and gain insight into other aspects contributing to a profession in marine mammal care.
- The duties of the individual apprentice will vary based on the effort put forth by the student along with individual interests and learning curve.

Program Logistics:
- This program is for students ages 13-17.
- Program size will vary depending upon the number of applicants.
- Students must be comfortable in deep water with basic swimming skills.
- Each candidate must also meet a variety of criteria including being currently enrolled in school, obtaining written permission from a parent/guardian, and having a positive attitude.
Application Process:
- This is an application-based program, so all students will need to apply and be accepted into the program.
- This program runs from September to August inclusive of the application and orientation process.
- Apprentices must commit to at least two 4-hour shifts per month during the school year from November through June.
- Apprentices must also commit 10 shifts during summer break in July and August.
