WELCOME TO DOLPHIN QUEST BERMUDA'S JUNIOR APPRENTICE PROGRAM

The Junior Apprentice Program at Dolphin Quest Bermuda offers an immersive learning opportunity tailored for students between the ages of 13 and 17 who are interested in pursuing careers in the marine mammal or conservation fields. Apprentices will be mentored by our Dolphin Quest Crew as they experience the many aspects of caring for marine animals. This exceptional program serves as an ideal preparatory experience for our college level internship program.

Program Content:

  • The total time apprentices must commit to in this program is 100 hours broken up into 4-hour shifts.
  • Participants will be mentored by Marine Mammal Specialists in all aspects of animal care and training including nutrition preparation, program observation, animal enrichment, and more.
  • In addition, they will gain experience in public speaking, facility care, scientific studies, and teamwork.
  • Participants will engage in community events and gain insight into other aspects contributing to a profession in marine mammal care.
  • The duties of the individual apprentice will vary based on the effort put forth by the student along with individual interests and learning curve.

Program Logistics:

  • This program is for students ages 13-17.
  • Program size will vary depending upon the number of applicants.
  • Students must be comfortable in deep water with basic swimming skills.
  • Each candidate must also meet a variety of criteria including being currently enrolled in school, obtaining written permission from a parent/guardian, and having a positive attitude.

Application Process:

  • This is an application-based program, so all students will need to apply and be accepted into the program.
  • This program runs from September to August inclusive of the application and orientation process.
  • Apprentices must commit to at least two 4-hour shifts per month during the school year from November through June.
  • Apprentices must also commit 10 shifts during summer break in July and August.
    Shift times are either 8:30am-12:30pm or 12:30pm-4:30pm.

  • Collect and submit 1 employment or character reference.
  • Reference/documents must not exceed 3 MB in size.

5. Submit all application materials.
