SWIM TEST INFORMATION
At Dolphin Quest, the safety of our crew stands as our foremost concern. Our swim test is a critical measure ensuring that team members who engage with our animals or operate within their oceanic environment possess the necessary skills to ensure safety. The swim test criteria are accessible beforehand, allowing all crew members the chance to practice each skill before the assessment. Successfully passing this swim test will be a mandatory annual requirement. We strongly advise ample preparation in advance to ensure proficiency, as job roles are dependent on this skill set.

- Swimsuit and/or wetsuit only.
- Mask or goggles optional per segment.
- Any job position that requires regularly entering the lagoon is required to pass this test.
- Individuals must pass all 5 test components during the same test time to pass.
- Components can be completed in any order.
- Everyone gets two opportunities to pass any component within one test time.
- The number of test times within a year is determined by the Manager of Marine Animals.

Description:
- Feet first entry and swim 75 feet from dock edge, turn and come back – 150 feet total.
Time duration:
- 1 minute and 15 seconds max
Criteria:
- Entry – head and eyes must remain above the surface of the water.
- Swim – must demonstrate proficient and comfortable freestyle swimming ability.
- Turn – must turn under water without touching the bottom.

Description:

- Tread water with your hands at shoulders.
Time duration:
- 5 minutes
Criteria:
- Tread water without wearing a lifejacket using any kick.
- All 10 fingers must always remain above the surface of the water throughout the duration of the test.
- Must be able to comfortably engage in conversation during water tread as requested.

Description:
- Demonstrate a quick and safe exit from a variety of lagoon locations.
Criteria:
- Exit from lagoon as requested by instructor.
- Swim quickly from mid-lagoon to an exit point and exit in a timely manner.

Description:
- Dive and swim underwater from dock to designated spot 75 feet away.
Criteria:
- Entry – calm, headfirst dive into water, or in-water start.
- Underwater swim – body completely underwater and swim using any stroke other than freestyle.
- Finish – end point will be marked 75 feet away from start.

Description:
- Surface dive to 11 feet underwater to transport and recover.
Criteria:
- Surface dive – begin your dive from the surface of water.
- Underwater transport – pick up a bucket of sand on the bottom 11 feet deep and then move the bucket 10 feet to a marked location.
- Underwater recovery – pick up a weight and place on the dock.
