BIG ISLAND VOLUNTEERING

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES ON HAWAII’S BIG ISLAND

We are united by a shared mission: to protect and preserve our island, our ocean, and our planet. At a time when environmental challenges continue to grow and financial support is increasingly limited, we can all do our part by volunteering our time towards meaningful, hands-on conservation efforts while visiting Hawaii’s Big Island.

HAWAII’S BIG ISLAND VOLUNTEER CALENDAR

To support and amplify the work of local environmental nonprofit organizations, Dolphin Quest has created a free calendar that lists island-wide environmental volunteer opportunities. Nonprofit organizations can post volunteer opportunities at no cost, and residents and visitors can easily find ways to get involved in meaningful, hands-on conservation efforts.

Volunteering with environmental nonprofits plays a vital role in protecting our planet and fostering a more sustainable future. These organizations often rely on volunteers to support critical conservation efforts, from habitat restoration and wildlife monitoring to community outreach and education. By giving your time and skills, you not only help advance environmental goals but also raise awareness about pressing ecological issues. Volunteering empowers individuals to take direct action, build meaningful connections with nature and others, and inspire collective responsibility for the health of our environment.

HAWAII ISLAND HUMANE SOCIETY FIELD TRIPS FOR SHELTER DOGS

The Hawaii Island Humane Society’s Field Trips for Shelter Dogs program offers a fun and meaningful way to make a real difference in a dog’s life. Spending a day with a shelter dog provides a much-needed break from the shelter, helps improve their well-being, and increases their chances of meeting a potential adopter. Research shows that even a few hours outside the shelter can have a positive impact on dogs, making your time together truly valuable. And what better way to get your doggy “fix” than sharing a day with a furry friend in paradise?

As a nonprofit organization, the Hawaii Island Humane Society depends on the generosity of animal lovers to support lifesaving programs like this one. A donation is kindly requested to participate and will be charged at the time of pickup: $35 per family or group for non–Hawaii residents, or $15 per family or group with a valid Hawaii ID. Field Trips are by appointment only and are available Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays at our Animal Community Center in Holualoa and our Keaau shelter. Island residents interested in participating regularly can ask about our Loyal Field Trippers program. To get started, schedule an appointment and be sure to select the correct pickup location.
